The unintended expat blogger behind SoftGroveNest

Hi there, I'm Sofia

I work as a project manager. I'm a parent. An expat based in Madrid, Spain.

A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter living overseas.

How It Began

Relocating to Spain wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it started as a work opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.

The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and higher expectations. Routine tasks seemed more challenging than expected.

The Adjustment Phase

There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines formed. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and started building something that felt steady.

Why I Created SoftGroveNest

Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or surface-level tourism content. What was missing was honest, everyday family perspective.

This site exists to fill that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Spain.

What This Website Represents (And Does Not)

This site IS:

  • Practical know-how from living in Spain
  • Centered on family life and everyday experiences
  • Updated only when something truly changes

This site ISN'T:

  • A resource for tourism authorities
  • A platform for sponsored reviews
  • Just another generic travel blog

Looking Forward

Our stay in Spain goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I will continue recording what we learn.

If you have questions about family life in Madrid or anywhere in Spain, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Best regards,

Sofia
